Paximal CEO Ian Schick to Lead the Keystone Initiative at Stanford CodeX
CodeX, the Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, has launched the Keystone Initiative, a program to define how the next generation of lawyers becomes competent to supervise AI-generated legal work. Paximal co-founder and CEO Ian Schick leads the initiative as a CodeX Fellow, with Google as anchor sponsor and a dozen Am Law firms in conversation as charter participants.

The initiative starts from a simple observation: lawyers have always learned judgment by drafting and being corrected, and that mechanism is disappearing as first drafts increasingly arrive finished. Keystone will build a practice simulator trained on expert redlines, and a neutral, Stanford-hosted standard for contributing drafting histories safely. It begins with patents. A design session at the Stanford d.school is set for November, with a convening at Stanford Law School in February 2027.
